Umar Akmal has been selected by the Quetta Gladiators for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight, despite concerns about his fitness. The franchise saw potential in the batter and offered him a spot on their team, while other franchises were not interested in drafting him.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi acknowledged Quetta’s decision to pick Umar Akmal and stated that the player should be grateful for the opportunity, but also emphasized that he needs to work on his fitness.
“Umar Akmal should be thankful to Quetta Gladiators for picking him in PSL, as other franchises were not interested. He has been struggling with fitness issues for a while, but I still like him as a batter. However, he still needs to work on his physical condition,” said Afridi.
