Australia has announced its squad for the upcoming one-day international (ODI) series in India next month, which includes David Warner and Ashton Agar, despite being sent home from the test tour earlier this week. The squad also features all-rounders Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell, who are recovering from recent injuries.
The three-match series will commence on March 17 in Mumbai, followed by matches in Vizag and Chennai, and is considered crucial preparation for the World Cup in India later this year. Pat Cummins will captain the team, replacing Aaron Finch, who is recovering from a knee injury.
Chief selector George Bailey confirmed that Josh Hazlewood has been left out of the squad to allow him to recover from an Achilles injury. The team also anticipates the recovery of all-rounder Cameron Green and left-arm paceman Mitchell Starc from their respective broken fingers, which prevented them from playing in the first two tests.
Jhye Richardson, who has recovered from a hamstring injury, will join the squad and bolster the fast-bowling stocks. Marsh, who is recovering from an ankle injury, is expected to play two domestic matches for Western Australia before heading to India. Meanwhile, Maxwell has already returned from a broken leg with Victoria’s state team.
Bailey emphasized that these matches in India are a significant step in the team’s preparation for the World Cup, and Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, and Jhye Richardson are all essential players in the squad’s future plans. The full squad comprises Pat Cummins, Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, and Adam Zampa.
